What to expect from your first CoolPeel

CoolPeel is one of the treatments patients research the most before booking — and one of the most misrepresented online. Some articles make it sound like a facial; others make it sound like ten days of hiding. The truth lives in the middle: it's a real medical-grade treatment with real (but short) recovery, and the result is meaningfully better skin in about a week.

This post walks through exactly what to expect from your first CoolPeel session at Epic IV.

Arrival

You'll change into a treatment gown, we'll wash your skin, and we'll apply a topical numbing cream. The numbing sits for about 45 minutes — bring a podcast or a book. We'll take baseline photos for your chart (you can have copies).

The treatment itself (15–20 minutes for full face)

Once numb, your clinician walks you through the room: protective eyewear, the laser handpiece, what you'll feel. The treatment runs in passes — small, controlled grids placed across your skin. You'll feel warmth and a quick snapping sensation, almost like a rubber band against a hot surface. It's not nothing, but with proper numbing, most patients describe it as intense for a few seconds, then back to baseline.

A full-face CoolPeel runs 15–20 minutes. Targeted areas (around the eyes, just the cheeks) run shorter.

Right after

Your skin will look pink and feel hot, similar to a moderate sunburn. Cool air helps. We send you home with a small starter kit: a gentle cleanser, a bland moisturizer, mineral SPF, and written aftercare.

Day 1

• Look: moderate redness, slightly puffy.

• Feel: warm, slightly tight.

• Do: rest. Take ibuprofen if comfortable. Apply moisturizer often. Sleep elevated.

Day 2

• Look: redness fading toward pink. Skin feels slightly rough to the touch — that's the microcolumns "setting." You may notice tiny dark dots; that's normal.

• Feel: more comfortable. Most patients return to non-public-facing work.

• Do: keep moisturizing. Mineral makeup is OK if your provider clears it.

Day 3

• Look: subtle peeling begins. Not the dramatic sheet shedding from older lasers — closer to a fine dust.

• Feel: itchy at times (normal — don't pick).

• Do: business as usual for most people. Most patients return to public-facing work today.

Days 4–5

• Look: glow phase. You'll catch a glimpse in the mirror and stop. Skin is fresh and bright; pores look smaller; tone is more even.

• Feel: like nothing happened.

• Do: still no actives (retinoids, acids). Still SPF 30+ daily — your fresh skin is more sun-vulnerable.

Week 2 onward

The collagen-rebuilding part of CoolPeel is invisible at first and pays out for weeks. Two weeks in, texture is clearly improved. At four to six weeks, fine lines are softer and pores are more refined. With a series of three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, results layer — and the maintenance bar drops.

When to call us

Almost never — CoolPeel has a very predictable recovery. But call (don't text Google) if you see:

Worsening redness or swelling after day 3.

• Any signs of infection (warmth, pus, fever).

• Significant unexpected pain.

• Cold-sore eruption (we'll switch you to active antiviral dosing).
